How To Make An Outdoor Shower

Building an outdoor shower is an excellent way to cool off on a hot day, rinse off after a swim, or simply enjoy the fresh air.

### Materials

- 4x4 cedar posts for the frame - 2x4 cedar boards for the walls - Outdoor showerhead - Plumbing pipe and fittings - Concrete mix - Gravel - Shower curtain or door

### Tools

- Circular saw - Drill - Level - Shovel - Tape measure - Pencil - Safety glasses

### Instructions #### 1. Choose a Location

Select a location that is level, has good drainage, and gets plenty of sun. Avoid placing the shower near trees or other objects that could block the water flow or create a tripping hazard.

#### 2. Dig the Footings

Dig four holes for the posts, each hole 2 feet deep and 1 foot in diameter. Fill the holes with gravel and tamp it down firmly.

#### 3. Install the Posts

Set the 4x4 posts in the holes and fill the holes with concrete mix. Use a level to make sure the posts are plumb and square. Allow the concrete to cure for at least 24 hours.

#### 4. Build the Frame

Attach the 2x4 boards to the posts to create the frame of the shower. The boards should be spaced evenly, with a gap of about 1 inch between each board. Use screws or nails to secure the boards to the posts.

#### 5. Install the Showerhead

Attach the showerhead to the plumbing pipe and install the pipe to the top of the frame. Use a level to make sure the showerhead is level. Turn on the water and check for any leaks.

#### 6. Install the Shower Curtain or Door

Hang a shower curtain or install a shower door to enclose the shower. This will help to keep the water in and the bugs out.

#### 7. Finish the Shower

Add any finishing touches, such as a bench, a soap dish, or a towel rack. Enjoy your new outdoor shower!

### Tips

- If you are building the shower in a cold climate, you may want to insulate the walls and ceiling to prevent the water from freezing. - You can use a solar-powered water heater to heat the water for the shower. - Add a drain to the bottom of the shower to allow the water to drain away. - Make sure the shower is level so that the water drains properly.
