How To Sew Outdoor Cushions
Outdoor cushions can brighten up your patio or deck and make it more comfortable to relax outdoors. They are also a great way to add a personal touch to your outdoor space. Sewing your own outdoor cushions is a relatively easy project that can be completed in a few hours.
To sew your own outdoor cushions, you will need the following materials:
- Outdoor fabric
- Foam or batting for the filling
- Zipper
- Thread
- Sewing machine
Once you have gathered your materials, you can follow these steps to sew your outdoor cushions:
- Measure and cut the fabric. The first step is to measure and cut the fabric for the cushion covers. You will need two pieces of fabric for each cushion cover, one for the front and one for the back. The pieces of fabric should be the same size, and they should be large enough to cover the foam or batting plus 2 inches on all sides.
- Sew the zipper. The next step is to sew the zipper to the back piece of fabric. Place the zipper face down on the edge of the fabric, and sew it in place using a zipper foot. Be sure to backstitch at the beginning and end of the seam.
- Pin the front and back pieces of fabric together. Place the front and back pieces of fabric right sides together, and pin them around the edges. Make sure that the zipper is aligned on both pieces of fabric.
- Sew the cushion cover. Sew around the edges of the cushion cover, using a 1/2-inch seam allowance. Be sure to leave a 4-inch opening on one side for turning.
- Turn the cushion cover right side out. Once the cushion cover is sewn, turn it right side out through the opening. Push out the corners, and press the seams.
- Insert the foam or batting. Insert the foam or batting into the cushion cover. Make sure that the foam or batting is evenly distributed, and that it fills the cushion cover completely.
- Close the opening. Hand-sew the opening in the cushion cover closed using a blind stitch.
Your outdoor cushions are now complete! Enjoy relaxing on your new cushions and adding a personal touch to your outdoor space.
